Another Character Design by Bo-Po-Mo-Fo Another Character Design by Bo-Po-Mo-Fo
For the last two years I've been on a bit of a journey in terms of my painting style.  I have never been fully satisfied and have been trying otu new things and new techniques.  Every time I saw a flawlessly rendered painting I would want so badly to do the same.  Then I'd see a beautifully inked watercolor and get pulled back in that direction.

For this piece I decided to simply go back "home."  I went back to my old way of painting for this one, but first took the time to concentrate on outlines.  I also left in all of the sketchy layers to simulate a partially erased sketch on watercolor paper.

Anyway, one thing I learned is that as an artist, sometimes it's just better to go back home.  Go out and journey and wander.  Try new things, learn new things, but go back home with all your new experiences and you'll find that you have grown in unexpected ways during your journey.

Some sound advice. I feel like I'm at a stage where I should wander a bit more. I've been too complacent at home and need to broaden my scope a bit.

Also, nice pants. Look really comfy. (My sister agrees)

Wow, your artwork is unique! I really love your style! I know you said in the description that it is an older style of yours, but I really like it. I will be adding you to my Watch list! :aww: Okay, now time for me to critique this for you. ^^ The first thing I noticed was the amount of shading that you used. I am learning how to shade things myself, but I have to say that this is really well done. You can tell where the shading is supposed to be and the different colors that you used. The next positive thing I see is the anatomy of the man. Everything looks to be pretty much in top shape on the anatomy side. Can I just say this--dat bod! What I like the most is the details you put into the hair and the hair effect. It looks like that there is hair there and it is flowing in the wind. I would only have one suggestion for you to do the next time. I would try not to make the shoes/toes a little pointed. ^^; It looks like that it is an elf or a witch's style shoe. If you make it less pointed, it would look 100% better. Other than that, wonderful job!

Hi there from ProjectComment!
I like this picture for various reasons. Firstly, the whole composition works in an excellent way. The design of the character is superb, I both dig the inherent dynamics, and all the delicate details you put onto him. I really appreciate it when artists pay a lot of attention to the details which significantly enhances beholding the artwork.
His clothes are exquisite: the vivid flow of his pants, his scarf and the shawls wrapped around the hips works out greatly, and the foldings look totally beliavable. The fabric can easily identified as silk or a similar gossamer textile. What can I say about the anatomy, is that it it's virtually flawless. I can't find a point to complain here. Furthermore, I adore the oriental-styled background which supports the Persian/Arabic designed character.
Secondly, I really appreciate the technique. You chose soft and smooth water colors (I read that it's digital - awesome job, they look like traditional water colors!), yet they look fresh and expressive, the color palette was chosen wisely. The thick black outlines fortify the figure and are a good guidance to the eye. The Fore- and background harmonize, which makes the picture even more outstanding and creates a great, mystic-like atmosphere.
All I can say now that I really can't find anything to improve - good job!

I really admire this! I couldn't believe these were not real watercolors and comparing with the other ones in your gallery you mastered the look in this piece especially well :) The sketch lines sure add to this but also how you shaded his torso with different layers and not too much blending.

I know this feel very well, I see so many things I want to try and get pulled in so many directions 'style-wise', but sometimes it's better to just accept the way you draw and make things best, and go back to it.  This is a very beautiful piece, I love the colors and the style. <3

Wow, I really love your technique! The colors are so calming and in harmony with each other. You really know how to use waterolour - the way the colors are flowing into each other, especially in the scarf.
I like the whole flow - the movement, the folds in contrast with the geometrics and sharp angles of the background. And the bg pattern is very sophisticated and beatifully done, so much work put into it!
On the other hand I think some better work could be done with the hands and fingers.
Overall, it's a nice and well-structured piece and I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10.

The style reminds me of Alphonse Mucha's work  Except slightly more badass :XD: Great character design and nicely done

He has an atmosphere of...indian, or arabian, both for the look and that symbol behind. The pants and scarf are so flowing and light, but his body is very strong-looking and defined, a nice combination of twirling and standing in all of the picture
